Inclusive neighbourhood energy transition

A neighbourhood learns to use energy smarter—together.

ZERO puts Elderveld residents at the centre of a fair response to grid congestion. YUMA provides the data architecture, management and analytics backbone through InformationGrid, enabling a secure data space, a neighbourhood digital twin and data-driven advice.

The energy transition creates a participation paradox: the households that could benefit most are often least able to participate, while growing electricity demand puts increasing pressure on the grid. ZERO combines social, technical and organisational perspectives so residents can co-create a future-proof local energy plan. A digital twin makes the effects of energy choices visible, while the community helps turn individual insight into shared action.

The energy transition accelerates when residents can see the impact of their choices—and learn from one another.

The pattern

Participation, governed data and a digital twin reinforce each other.

The network effect

Insight becomes more valuable as the community participates.

Each participant learns not only from their own data, but also from experiences and patterns across the neighbourhood. More participation can therefore produce better advice, greater trust and faster collective action.

01See

Digital-twin and AI insights make household and neighbourhood impact visible.

02Act

Residents adapt energy choices to their own situation and shared grid needs.

03Share

Neighbours exchange experiences, successful practices and concerns.

04Learn

More participation improves the models, advice and collective results.

Design outcomes

An inclusive energy transition that learns and scales.

01Give residents understandable, timely insight into energy use and grid impact.

02Enable GDPR-compliant, sovereign sharing between citizens and project partners.

03Use a unified energy model to identify stress points and assess interventions.

04Transfer proven practices to other Arnhem neighbourhoods and European cities.
